At Waverley Social Enterprises, we are proud to be part of preserving one of Melbourne’s most historic and important sites, Deaf Children Australia (DCA). Over the past nine months, our Grounds Maintenance team has been working hard to care for the beautiful grounds of DCA, helping to maintain a space that has been supporting and empowering young people who are Deaf and hard of hearing for generations.
Our dedicated team – Peter, Amit, and Tim, supervised by Rob – have been responsible for tasks like mowing, pruning, weeding, edging, blowing leaves, and trimming hedges. Their work not only keeps the grounds looking their best but also helps to preserve a site that holds deep historical and cultural significance for the Deaf community.
The partnership between Waverley Social Enterprises and Deaf Children Australia is a fantastic example of how social procurement creates real, positive outcomes. Our employees are given meaningful employment opportunities where they can use their skills and talents, while organisations like DCA receive high-quality, reliable services that help them maintain important community spaces.
Recently, the team at Deaf Children Australia went a step further to show their appreciation for the work being done. They hosted a special morning tea to thank our Workmates for their ongoing effort and dedication.
During the event, Noel Henderson, Property & Heritage Manager at DCA, spoke warmly about the impact our team has made:
“Thank you for all the work that you’re doing – it’s awesome. We absolutely love having you here and we see you as part of our team, so thank you.”

Moments like this show the true value of inclusive employment. Our employees are not just providing a service. They are building relationships, strengthening communities, and contributing to something bigger than themselves.
At Waverley, our mission is to empower people with disability through innovative employment opportunities. Seeing our teams being recognised, respected, and welcomed as part of the DCA community reflects exactly what we strive to achieve.
We are deeply grateful to Deaf Children Australia for embracing this partnership and for their commitment to social procurement. Together, we are demonstrating the incredible outcomes that happen when organisations invest in inclusion.
